One thing I’d never thought I’d ever consider myself very knowledgeable about would be piddle pads. I’m a pro. I’ve tried several different brands and know what I want and don’t want in them. Yes, I’ve used the medical chucks and they do work for me, but because my Liam can be a roamer, sometimes they aren’t as optimal as I’d like. The chucks, which are fairly inexpensive, measure only 17″ x 24 inches. In my short video clip you can see the difference between them and the All-Absorb, which is a much, much better option.

You really have to think about your reason for ordering this size pad. If you have a small dog under ten pounds, these will be perfect. If you have a large breed pup who will quickly outgrow them, you’ll be sorely disappointed. I use them year-round, but many people use them during the winter months because their dogs can’t go out in inclement weather.

    FEATURES:

► Quick drying surface prevents tracking
► The super-absorbent core can turn urine into gel instantly and hold up to 3 cups of liquid
► Built-in attractant and odor neutralizer
► Perfect for training or assisting aging dogs
    ► Leak proof
    ► Standard Size (22″x23″)

The surface of the All-Absorb pads quickly wicks away the liquid into the fiber. Sometimes the thicker pads tend to keep the liquid on the surface for some reason, but the All-Absorb work well in this regard. I change pads often and you’ll have to consider how many you’ll use when you decide to order. One hundred pads will probably last long enough to get that pup trained.

I’m not having any “adjustment” problems with the All-Absorb and I do like the added width. The All-Absorb pads are specifically made for training, although they are perfect for the inside dog. There are directions for use on the side of the box. Once again, make sure that you order these pads for a smaller breed dog. If you disregard the measurements and and they don’t suit your pet’s needs you can’t blame the pads. Very nice pads and perfect for smaller breed dogs, especially those little rovers.

I was looking for a replacement for the ever changing Wee Wee pads that get smaller and smaller with each order. First we tried the All Max brand and they worked great and I was going to simply change to those. Then I saw these and read the reviews which was followed by ordering them. The better price for an excellent product is what clinched the deal for me. They are so absorbent and fit the piddle pad holder well. They are also softer and easier to use. I gave one the royal test this morning for our little toy poodles morning potty and they worked great. It does seem to keep the urine in one place better too instead of traveling on the mat and having it get on his paws which I also liked. At only 20 cents a pad, they will be our new replacement.
UPDATE: 4-18-2014 These were out of stock for quite awhile and I just ordered/received a new batch. They are different!!! The inside white part that is absorbent is smaller like the wee wee pads. Not so impressed anymore and probably won’t buy again.

We have a Chihuahua that has been using training pads since she was very young. We have a large litter box that we put the training pads in and she has never had a problem using them. Over the last 13+ years we have purchased many different brands and quality of pads. I would estimate that we have tried 15 different brands in all. We have had some training pads that are basically useless with hardly any filling in them. We have also had training pads that have been way too small or not evenly shaped. On the other hand we have had some nice and thick and absorbent training pads that are plenty big enough as well. The point is that all training pads are not all created equal. Typically you will have to pay about twice or three times as much for the really good training pads.

These training pads are large at 23 x 22 inches wide. They aren’t the absolute thickest training pads that we have ever used but they are still nice and thick one of the top several that we have used when it comes to thickness. They absorb a lot of liquid and I haven’t had any puddles on top of the pad. It says that a single pad can hold 3 cups of water. I don’t quite believe that but they are very absorbent. I have never had one that dripped when I picked it up. Keep in mind that we have a Chihuahua so it may be different with a bigger dog. They have a built-in odor neutralizer and an attractant to help train your dog. It’s supposed to help encourage them to go on the pad. Our dog was already trained so I have no idea if the attractant works. I will say that long ago when we originally trained our dog the attractants didn’t help at all. These pads are very soft and lay nicely in the box. The last training pads that we had were stiff and didn’t always lay the way that we wanted it to. When you lay these pads down they conform to the area.

Overall I think these are one of the best value training pads that we have used. Out of all the other training pads I would say these are better than most of them and they are priced much more reasonably than some of the other really good training pads. Based on my experience I think these are definitely worth a try.

Excellent quality grain-free food at a good price, June 3, 2011

I’ve done hours and hours of homework on high quality, grain-free dog foods. From product analysis, kcal analysis, ingredients, customer reviews, professional reviews, company recalls – all of it… I have become a mini-expert in the field.

I was pushed into becoming an expert because my yellow Lab kept having seizures and I couldn’t figure out the source. I finally learned it was her food, which was the most expensive store bought brand my local Sams Warehouse carries. I thought I was giving her the best, it looked fresh and rich, but it turns out it was just absolutely terrible food. My black Lab also had terrible skin allergies, to the point where I would get a small rash on my skin if he laid next to me on the couch for more than 5 minutes at a time. I had no clue it was because of the food. But it was!

Since having that epiphany and learning so much about dog food, I’ve always made sure to feed them the highest quality grain free food I can buy. This Taste of the Wild (TOTW) fits the bill very nicely, and they love it. Since switching to a grain free diet, the yellow lab has not had any more seizures in over a year, and the black lab has the silkiest coat you’ve ever seen and his skin allergies are completely gone.

They are on 2/3rds dry and 1/3rd wet combination. Contrary to what I had previously been raised to believe, a wet diet is not bad for dogs but in fact is superior! I use the combination to save money while providing them the best I can.

Before deciding on TOTW, I had also tried Blue Buffalo, Wellness Core, and Orijen. Briefly: they are all good foods, but my labs were happiest on TOTW and my wallet is also happiest on TOTW. I also believe TOTW has a better formulation for them and their life style (some of the products, like Orijen, are simply too rich for the average household dog, despite being made of the best ingredients available).

Enter TOTW. The dry food is dark and rich, with no sign of crumbling. The kibble is a good average size. The wet food has nice chunks of meat and the right amount of gravy. I use the wet food as a topper to mix the 2/3rd dry and 1/3rd wet together for their meals. I use one whole can of wet per meal with my pack, which is convinient so I don’t have to store it in the refrigerator – btw, never store canned dog food in the fridge in the original aluminum container!

I still wish I could find a less expensive product with the same quality, but in the mean time, TOTW is the best choice for my pack.

Best Grain-Free for the Money, December 4, 2010

I have been feeding TOTW to my Italian Greyhound-Terrier mix for over a year now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. First, for all of those wanting to feed their dog grain-free, but struggling to pay Orijen prices, TOTW is the solution. TOTW is definitely the most cost-effective grain-free food I’ve been able to find.

For all of those fearful of the use of fish meal and the possible threat of ethoxyquin, it appears that TOTW customer service have confirmed that the particular ocean fish meal used in TOTW is, in fact, ethoxyquin-free. Here is the link to that information and a step-by-step analysis of the ingredient list.

    […]

After getting my dog from a rescue, feeding him TOTW has helped him reach a healthy weight and an active lifestyle. The vet has repeatedly noted how good his weight is, how great his coat looks and how well muscled he is.

TOTW, with its high protein and fat content (fat is an essential part of a healthy diet for our four-legged friends) is a great, cost-effective grain-free option. However, those switching from grain kibbles need to be slow about switching their dogs to this kibble. TOTW and other grain-free foods are much richer and a 5 to 7 days slow transition will yield the best result.

Is TOTW for every dog? Probably not, every dog reacts differently to different food and if you have a small breed, I would tend to focus on the lower protein content of the Pacific Stream formula rather than the High Prairie or Wetlands Formulas. I do, however, think TOTW can be a great option for a lot of dog owners. If you’re interested in starting to feed grain-free and holistic dog food, TOTW has worked great for me and my dog.

Yes, I am copying and pasting my review of the other Taste of the Wild food as it has the same properties and results.

I’ll be a bit “graphic”, I apologize if I offend anyone…but these are the things a real shopper wants to know. For starters, the dogs (full blood Black Lab, full blood pit, 98% Wolf-hybrid, and full blood Pomeranian) all eat the same food and they all seem to very much enjoy all of the Taste of the Wild dry foods. Yes, the cost is high for my taste, but as a shopper and as an animal lover, you get what you pay for. On the upper side of the cost, the dogs all eat less because they are actually getting full. The lack of “fillers” allows my companions to actually fill up on what the body wants to and needs to absorb. The other plus is that there is less feces as their bodies are absorbing more of what they are eating…again, the lack of “fillers”. They all seem to have more energy (even my 9 year old Lab is showing a higher energy level and maintaining a healthy 105 lbs (solid and muscular rather than the saggy belly she was starting to get), their feces is healthier (proper color and consistency…solid rather than the other stuff) and my girlfriend gets to sleep through the night as they aren’t waking her up at 2-4 a.m. with a bathroom emergency. I hope this helps anyone else looking for a healthier food for their companions.
